The 2015 Jaguar XK plays an unforgiving role between two classes. Оne being in the sports department and the other a GT car. This fine vehicle has sleek body lines and a lot of horsepower under the hood. The precise handling and a range of engines that peak with a 550-horsepower, supercharged V-8, the 2015 Jaguar XK is truly a real mean sports car that we probably won’t see it come back in the near future.
On the other hand its spacious and quite comfortable, and with that comes a cabin with a 2+2 setup. This said the 2015 Jaguar XK can also be counted as a grand touring car.
Despite being a great car, once the 2014 F-Type arrived as the halo sports car for the brand, there was no longer a need for the 2015 Jaguar XK. And with it no longer needed, Jaguar announced that the 2015 Jaguar XK will mark the end of the nameplate. However, a new report from Autocar claims that this elimination may be a temporary one.
The XK’s former project leader, Russ Varney, who also oversees the development of the F-Type told Autocar that the XK is making a comeback.
They have plans to do lots more with the F-type, and people can expect that it will cover a lot more bases, but the company will still address other areas they also want to cover. Varney said that they need to find the right way to deliver all of the new aspects to the new design, and the XK could be one way of doing that.
He also added that the car straddled the GT and sports car segment, with more of an emphasis on the GT side but probably with not enough emphasis and that there is no reason the XK couldn’t exist today as a true contender in that GT segment.
What we can interpret from the words of Varney is that Jaguar is putting a pause on the XK series and shifting all of the resources to work on a full GT car that will be a strong contender in that department.
The other story is that this GT prototype could then ultimately retake the XK name and make a whole new generation that the company can be proud of. That would be a great way to round out the Jaguar lineup without having to get buyers used to an all-new name.
Whether or not the 2015 Jaguar XK makes a comeback, it is no mystery that Jaguar needs a grand tourer to properly compete with its European rivals. Еssentially the XK project may not be moving forward just yet, it could be revived in the near future. If it did, we’d be looking at a more accommodating and luxurious grand tourer, different from the F-Type that’s more of a focused sports car. Think of it, then, as more of a Bentley Continental GT, but probably less expensive – or put another way, if the F-Type is a junior Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the new XK would be a (relatively) more accessible DB9.
