It had been during the Frankfurt Auto Show back in 1995 when Lotus first presented the car named “Elise”, and now, twenty years on, the car manufacturer from the British city Hethel is celebrating the milestone with a new special edition of the Elise.
This new special edition is called the “Elise 20th Anniversary Edition”, and it’s based on the Elise S.
Although it has few weights-saving mods that help lose around 22 pounds from the vehicle’s curb weight, taking the new total to just 2,015 lbs.
That is amazingly lighter when compared to the majority of other cars in production, but it’s somewhat heavy in comparison to the initial Elise, the Series 1, which tipped the scales at just 1,598 lbs.
The car was in manufacturing for only 5 years before more strict crash safety regulations lead to the design of the present Series 2 Elise. It actually was at this time that Lotus also presented the hard-top Exige.
The Elise 20th Anniversary Edition, with its lightweight, compact, aero-optimized body, is motorized by the Elise’s known powered 1.8-liter four cylinder engine.
The engine delivers 217 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, which is sufficient to launch the car from 0-62 mph in just 4.6 seconds and to reach a top speed of 145 mph.
A part of the car’s weight-saving mods features light developed wheels finished in matte black, a unique lightweight center console that suits the body color, and lightweight sports seats in leather material (or Yellow, Green, and Silver).
Also, the rear diffuser, wing mirrors, roll hoop cover and rear diffuser are all finished in matte black. Unique badging, out and inside, also suggests that the car’s worth.
Unluckily, the 2015 Lotus Elise will not be available in the U.S. market, so this special release model won’t be accessible locally. In the places where it is sold, the 2015 Lotus Elise price is set to be around $58,916.
