Mercedes-Benz notices that the market for SUVs is growing…
…and turning to even greater proportions in 2015 so they are going to make sure that their U.S. lineup is well stocked for this growth.
On the opening day of the New York Auto Show, the ,,overhauled” 2016 Mercedes SUV line was showed off, dubbed as 2016 Mercedes GLE:
in which are included several gas models, a plug-in hybrid and one AMG model offering 621 hp that runs buyers over $200,000.
1. Here is a summary of the 2016 Mercedes SUV line.
Mercedes chooses a shift in nomenclature in order to simplify the line of sport utility vehicles.
Gone is the M-Class…
while the G-Class designation will cover any SUVs in the brand lineup from A-Class to the S-Class.
As for the new GLE midsize SUV, the car maker offers 4 models to American consumers (you need to have account to access this link):
The basic model, 2016 Mercedes GLE350, features a 3.5-liter V6:
which makes him able to deliver 302 horsepower and 273 pounds-feet of torque.
Both standard and four-wheel drive models (4MATIC) are available.
With the next step-up, Mercedes offers the GLE400 4MATIC using twin-turbo V6 offering 329 horsepower and 354 pounds-feet of torque.
Fuel models are here to bring the new SUV line in 2016.
So, there is a GLE550e 4MATIC having s twin-turbo V6 and electric motors that offers 426 horsepower and 479 pounds-feet of torque.
Lastly, the GLE300d 4MATIC holds a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that can deliver 201 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque.
The GLE550e model is planned to be the Mercedes-Benz’s answer to the budding plug-in hybrid SUV segment…
…and this model from Stuttgart will be formidable with almost 19 miles of electric range to go combined with its massive power specs.
There are 4 different hybrid models that can allow the drivers to modify their usage of battery power while they drive.
The GLE AMG 63 and the GLE AMG 63S both became a member of the GLE Mercedes line with the New York launch, and both are equipped with a twin-turbo V8 with over 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.
2. Also, from Mercedes are revealing the pricing for its most imposing SUV, the AMG G65.
In the model AMG G65:
Mercedes has produced an SUV that with its performance wing can rival almost any sports car on the road.
The V12 engine can deliver 621 horsepower and 738 pounds-feet of torque (again you need account on their site to access this link)…
…capable of striking 60 miles per hour from a stand in just 5.3 seconds.
The basic price starts at $217,900 in the U.S., making it the fourth AMG vehicle that exceeds $200,000.
At the Mercedes reveals in New York, company officials stressed the continued surge in SUV buying in the U.S.
The brand manages to set an all-time record with their 356,136 U.S. sales in 2014, and that marked a gain of 7% over the prior year performance.
Audi and BMW also had excellent years.
We have to say that all of the three German luxury brands have re-designed SUVs coming to the U.S. market in 2015.
Judging by the looks of the Mercedes 2016 SUV line, they do have plans to budge in the slightest to rivals in any price point.
