If you thought Audi was behind it’s competitors at this year’s Geneva Motor Show you are gravely mistaken. The automaker is more than proud to present his latest Аudi R8 V10 model. This is actually the second generation of the high-performance sports car that packs a 5.2 FSI engine that goes up to 449 kW or 610 horsepower.
Boy this beauty is fast, and this can be confirmed by the fact that the vehicle goes from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds. The performance is boosted also thanks to a new Audi Space Frame that is multimaterial and has high proportions of aluminum and FRP.
Second Generation of R8
No model with the four rings is closer to motorsport, none is more striking and more dynamic: at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi is proud to present the second generation of its high-performance Аudi R8 V10 sports car.
Under the hood there’s a V10 mid-engine and the new quattro drive will ensure the drivers a breathtaking driving experience.
Еspecially Audi R8 v10 0-60 in the top-of-the-range version with 449 kW (610 hp): achieving 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in just 3.2 seconds, its top speed is 330 km/h (205.1 mph).
A high-revving mid-engine with superior performance, a consistently lightweight construction concept and an extremely dynamic chassis with quattro drive system and fully variable torque control – this is what makes the Аudi R8 V10 the sporty spearhead of Audi.
The high-performance sports car has been newly developed from the ground up – it is more taut, more striking and more fascinating both on the racetrack and on the road.
Two Versions of a 10 Cylinder Engine
Interestingly enough the The 5.2 FSI engine with 10 cylinders comes in two versions. The first one is not as capable as the other with around 397 kW or 540 horsepower. The second one has much more power sporting a heftier 449 kW or to be exact 610 horsepower.
The sound of the freely aspirated V10 engine, goes to a maximum torque at 6,500 rpm and with that the performance is even powerful. The transmission is quite a charm. We were surprised to see a 7-speed S tronic transmission accompanied with a newly developed quattro drive system that transmits the power to the road. The all new performance mode gives the Audi a selective dynamic handling system.
You don’t just get new features when it comes to the engine, the whole chassis is super lightweight at only 1,454 kg (3,205.5 lb) dry weight. Тhe new Audi R8 weighs up to 50 kilograms (110.2 lb) less than its predecessor. If we could describe the design of the R8 in three words that would be muscular, flat and wide.
The design reflects the powerful sporty character of the R8. You can’t escape the one thing on the front that distinguishes the R8 and those are the standard LED headlights.
An Amazing Virtual Cockpit
The reason why we mention the headlights is that they also come with some improvements and an extended field of vision that offers more brightness, as well as a laser spot for the high beam, All of this is in a way complemented by the dynamic turn signals in front and on the other hand, or side if you will you also get dynamic turn signals as standard at the rear.
The cockpit of the new Audi is more of a virtual cockpit. Almost all of the displays are digital.
It’s interesting how the the most important controls are in a group of button clusters arranged on the steering wheel. Also you get the well known MMI navigation that comes standard with MMI touch.
What is known so far is that the new Audi R8 will start sales this summer. Price of Audi R8 V10 vary from 165,000 euros for the R8 V10 and around 187,400 euros for the top-notch version R8 V10 plus.
